Last spring, several Akiuk families (and our whole community!) hosted five junior high students and their teacher for a week as they visited from Anchorage to learn about life in Kasigluk. A week later, five Akiuk junior highers traveled with Tammy to Anchorage to learn about life in the city.
We stayed with families in Anchorage and attended school there. Together, we investigated many different aspects of city life.
The Rose Urban Rural Sister School Exchange is an incredible
opportunity for kids to build friendships with folks from "the other side" of Alaska, and learn about their lives. We hope these friendships and relationships will help our students become better Alaska citizens, and to appreciate the good gift of diversity that our state offers us.
