Dear Akiuk Memorial School Families,
My name is Dr. Lorraine Hargett, and I am excited to introduce myself to the new school Administrator/Principal for Akiuk Memorial School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead alongside a great staff at a school full of rich and spiritual traditions that strive for excellence in education. I am enthusiastic about joining a great community where we share our values, install virtues, and empower our students to seek their full potential.
I began my educational career at The College of New Rochelle 1996-1998, receiving a bachelor's degree. Then I moved on to Capella University 2016-2022, receiving a Master of Science and a Doctor of Education. I accepted a teaching position as a Special education teacher at Richmond Public School from 2013-2017, moved on to Henrico County Schools as an Intervention Specialist, and accepted another position as an Extended Learning Stem Coordinator from 2017-2021.
I was born in raised in New York City. I have four lovely young adults, two boys, and two girls. I moved to Virginia in 2005 to provide my children with an education with fewer distractions and fewer students. My favorite color is red; however, I love all bright colors. One of my favorite holidays is Halloween. I enjoy reading, walking, watching movies, and dancing.
Great schools result from great teachers, staff, parents, and community members. My goal is to help grow our purposeful community through collective efficacy, communication, professional development, and collaboration with all stakeholders to continue building and fostering the tremendous culture embedded at Akiuk Memorial School. "The family and the community remain the basic unit of society in which children learn the human, spiritual and moral values which enable them to be a beacon of goodness, integrity and justice in our communities."
I look forward to working with all of you, the first educators of your children, to help achieve our shared mission and vision with the ultimate goal of helping each other become successful in educating our children and ourselves.
I am beyond excited to begin this new journey with all of you and the opportunity to lead alongside a great staff and community. I will work closely with our teachers, staff, and other stakeholders, providing your children the best chance to learn and grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your children as the new principal of School at Akiuk Memorial School. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share. I look forward to a fantastic school year serving those I have been called to serve.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Hargett Ed.D.
